Bon Vivant

Mockup generated with Adobe Firefly and edited in Photoshop

I was introduced to Jen and Lilly through a friend and colleague of mine who established the preliminary branding for their business, Bon Vivant. They brought me in to expand on their branding and knock out a few design requests before the grand opening, the main priority being custom catering boxes. The goal was to create something elevated that hosts would be happy to leave on party tables rather than transferring the food out of the box. This would give the brand visibility that didn't feel forced, making it a natural conversation starter at any party.

For the first draft I pitched a few color options and three designs: a simple logo-focused layout, a grape illustration, and a vintage floral direction.

We landed on a bone-colored box paired with forest green botanical prints. The removable outer sleeve featured florals that matched their existing brand look. For the inner box that would remain on display, I chose a grape motif to keep it both age and gender neutral for any type of celebration.

The outside of the box features a note from the founders and the definition of 'bon vivant' to ground the brand’s story. Inside, a CTA reveals itself as guests eat through the food, giving them a fun surprise once they reach the bottom of the box.

After the packaging was finalized, I designed a print and digital menu for the in-store monitors. The challenge here was trying to simplify the ordering system which included combinations of several meal types, box sizes, and real product photography. I played off their grapes logo to graphically represent the box sizes and pulled from the shop’s iconic tile pattern to create the photo grid.

It was so rewarding to offer my services to a business in my community. Bon Vivant was just a few blocks away from my home at the time, and getting to be one of their first customers on opening day brought the whole project full circle.
